A reassurance monitoring apparatus is disclosed comprising a first assembly to be located in a room with the person being monitored including a microphone adapted to convert sounds generated by the patient into an audio signal, a transmitter adapted to transmit a first signal representative of the audio signal, a receiver adapted to receive a second signal and a speaker adapted to generate an acoustic signal from information in the second signal; a second assembly located by the carer and comprising a microphone adapted to convert sounds generated by the carer into an audio signal, a transmitter adapted to transmit a third signal representative of the audio signal, a receiver adapted to receive the first signal and a speaker adapted to generate an acoustic signal from information in the first signal. The first assembly further includes at least one sensor adapted to generate an output signal indicative of a sensed parameter, the signal being transmitted by the transmitter to the receiver of the second assembly and the second assembly includes presentation means arranged to present information indicative of the sensed parameter to the carer.
