<p>In response to receiving a request to establish contact with the wireless commutations mobile station, a wireless communications network attempts to page the mobile station for a given time period, and if unsuccessfull, contacts a separate alternate network. The first network transfers the request and the identification of the mobile station to the alternate network, and the alternate network attempts to establish contact with the mobile station through its own page attempt. The two networks service geographic areas that at least partially overlap, with the alternate network's area preferably completely overlapping the first network's service area. Preferably, the alternate network transmits its page attempt at a higher power link margin and uses short message service to notify the mobile station that it was being paged by the first network.</p> |
