Preparation of biocompatible, biodegradable microparticles, comprising contacting microparticles having a polymer matrix containing an active agent and an organic solvent with an aqueous solvent system, in which the organic solvent content of the microparticles is reduced to 2% or less of the weight of the microparticles; so that the solvent system satisfies the conditions: (a) that it is at elevated temperature during at least part of the contact time with the microparticles; and/or (b) that it comprises water and a water-miscible solvent for the organic solvent, finally recovering the microparticles from the system. |
