The layer system consists of a reference layer (2), adjacent to an intermediate layer (3), adjacent to a detection layer (1). The detection layer is magnetized in one direction, and the reference layer in a second direction, at least in their surfaces facing the intermediate layer. At least the reference layer is provided with a structured surface which opposes changes in the second magnetization direction. The structure may have a corrugated or saw-tooth shaped topography.
