Apparatus for continuously casting ingots (15) made of a titanium alloy comprises an intermediate crucible arranged between the heat source and the continuous casting mold (13). The crucible is filled with a slag melt (5) and has a lateral discharge (3a). A part of the molten metal is passed through the discharge and collected by the slag melt in the mold and solidified. An Independent claim is also included for a process for continuously casting ingots.
