A plastics water pipe (10) forms part of a building installation and is supplied factory-fitted with a sliding bush (20) with a slightly larger internal diameter than the pipe outer diameter. The bush travel is limited by a suitable profile (28,22) on the pipe. When an internal fitting (14) is inserted into the pipe-end (24) the clamp locks the assembly together.
