The fitting (13, 38, 40) is coupled to a guide (5) housing a pull rod (7) used to open and close the container base. The fitting can be moved in the guide length direction over a distance equal to that travelled by the pull rod between the base opening and closing positions. The waste container is preferably lowerable into the ground and has at least one movable base part (3) and a cover with an inlet opening. A frame (4) secured to the container includes two guides that extend vertically from the top and bottom side of the cover. At least one of the guides houses a movable pull rod used to operate a base part. The pull rod can be moved between a first position where it is pushed into the cover, so that the base part is unlocked, and a second position where it protrudes from the top side ofthe cover, so that the base part is closed and locked in place.
