PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact electric soldering iron which responds very quickly and very precisely. SOLUTION: The electric soldering iron is provided with a cartridge 10 and a controller having a temperature measurement circuit including a thermocouple 8 and having a heating circuit in which a heating current is supplied. The cartridge (10) has a first conductor 1, a second conductor 2, a third conductor 3, a heating element 9, and a working tip 5. The first and the second conductors 1, 2 are continuously and electrically connected to the heating element 9, and the first and the third conductors 1, 3 are electrically connected each other and form the thermocouple 8 located close to the working tip 5. The first conductor 1 has, preferably, a section 7 whose one end is expanded and the second and the third conductors 2, 3 are approximately hollow cylinders. The heating element 9 is excluded from the temperature measurement circuit.
