<p>A steel with up to 0.82% C content, for rails, wheel linkages and rolling stock, contains less than 0.004% Te and/or up to 0.007% S, more pref. with a Te/S ratio of 0.1-0.6, and more pref. less than 0.0015% O. Also claimed is use of the above steel for rails, wheel linkages and railway rolling stock. Pref. the steel has the compsn. (i) 0.6-0.8% C, up to 0.50% Si, 0.80-1.30% Mn, max. 0.05% P, balance Fe and impurities; (ii) 0.5-0.75% C, 0.10-0.50% Si, 1.30-1.70% Mn, max. 0.05% P, balance Fe and impurities; (iii) 0.60-0.80% C, 0.60-1.20% Si, 0.80-1.30% Mn, max. 0.030% P, 0.70-1.20% Cr, balance Fe and impurities; (iv) 0.70-0.80% C, 0.80-1.20% Si, 0.80-1.30% Mn, max. 0.030% P, 0.80-1.20% Cr, up to 0.25% Ti and/or V, balance Fe and impurities; or (v) 0.53-0.62% C, 0.65-1.1% Mn, 0.8-1.3% Cr, 0.1-0.6% Si, 0.05-0.11% each of Mo and V, less than 0.02% P, balance Fe and impurities. Apart from the additional Te and/or low S content, the steel may also contain 0.01-0.25% Al or pref. less than 0.004% Al.</p> |
