PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lower the cost of a diamond-coated drill, raise the bonding strength between the diamond and the drill body, and prolong the useful life longevity of the drill by dispensing with cemented carbide for the drill body and diamond precipitation. SOLUTION: The cutting tool whose body consists of tool steel such as a high-speed steel is surface-coated with diamond particles electrodeposited about the cutting edge.
