PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin composition for a coated paper capable of achieving an improvement in the quality of the coated paper and scarcely causing disadvantages such as a thickening or deterioration of flow properties without generating formaldehyde by mixing a resin composition with a pigment and a water-based binder and coating a paper with the resultant composition and to further obtain a coating composition for paper using the resin composition. SOLUTION: This resin composition for the coated paper comprises a crosslinked amine compound which is a reactional product of an aliphatic amine with a glycidyl compound having at least two glycidyl groups in the molecule and a polyhydric alcohol. A nonpolymeric nonvolatile substance can further be contained in the resin composition. Besides, the coating composition for paper comprises the crosslinked amine compound, the polyhydric alcohol, and the pigment and the water-based binder and may further optionally contain the nonpolymeric nonvolatile substance.
