The tarpaulin consists of a woven or felt fabric covered on both sides by a closed pore synthetic foam e.g. of PVC, polyvinyl alcohol, polyamide, polyethylene, or synthetic or natural latex. Pref. the surface of the tarpaulin, which can be used for tent material or as roofing for swimming baths etc. is embossed to form channels along which water can drain away.
