The poultry shed has conventional floors (1) walls (2) and pitched roof (3). Under the central ridge of the roof is the egg laying nest area (6). At each side (2) of the shed are scratching areas (8) where the birds can scratch around freely. Between the central nest area and the scratching areas are panels of grids (7) through which the feces can drop. Below the nest area and grid panels is a conveyor belt and carriage system (5, 10) which removes the waste material.
