PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a phosphor excellent in production stability without fracturing a baking vessel or causing oxidation unevenness even when rapid heating or rapid cooling is carried out in a production process and having a sufficient photostimulable luminous quantity and excellent erasing characteristics capable of readily carrying out the erasion. SOLUTION: This method for producing the phosphor is characterized as comprising a step for mixing raw materials for the phosphor and preparing a mixture of the raw material for the phosphor, a baking step for baking the mixture of the raw materials for the phosphor and providing a basked material and a cooling step for cooling the baked material in which the mixture of the raw material for the phosphor is filled in a boat type vessel composed of a material having <=1×10-6/K coefficient of linear expansion and having a housing volume of 0.5×W to 10.0×W (cc) for the weight W (g) of the mixture of the raw materials for the phosphor to be baked to carry out the baking in the baking step and cooling is conducted while the resultant baked materials is filled in the boat type vessel in the cooling step.
