PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a collect chuck which can hold an object article the nominal size of whose held part is different. SOLUTION: The chuck main body 30 of a collet chuck is fixed coaxally to a rotary table 10. The first collet 32 is fitted movable in the axial direction in the chuck collet 32, and the second collet 34 is fitted movable in the axial direction in the first collet 32. The first and the second collets 32 and 34 are connected to different movement devices respectively. When the first collet 32 is moved in the axial direction, the front end 72 of the first collet 32 is compressed and expanded by engaging and removing the taper surface 78 of the first collet 32 and the taper surface 80 of a chuck main body 30. The second collet 34 is slided in the axial direction to an advance position to cover the first collet 32, and a retreat position to expose the straight surface 76 of the first collet 32. The condition to hold the outer peripheral surfaces 194 of two sorts of processed articles 12 at the straight surface 76 of the first collet 32, and the condition to hold them at the straight surface 100 of the second collet 34, are presented, by advancing and retreating the second collet 34.
