PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double bearing reel of structure capable of mounting and demounting a spool without dropping reel constitutent parts in a lever drag type double bearing reel useful for fishing a big fish. SOLUTION: In this lever drag type double bearing reel 1 in which rotation to a spool D freely rotatably borne between right and left side frames A and B is transmitted through a drag mechanism I for adjusting a frictional connection force to a proper force by a handle N to a main gear N1, a pinion gear C2, a spool shaft C and a drag lever I1, the spool D can be removed from and inserted into the spool shaft C by removing a cover part E detachably attached to the side of one side frame of the right and left side frames. The spool is removed, reel constitutent parts to be incorporated into both the side frames and the spool shaft C are inserted into them in a state that the reel constitutent parts are retained in a slip-off stopping state. Consequently, the reel constitutent parts are prevented from dropping during removal and insertion of the spool D.
