PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a culture device which can eliminate detects accompanied by banks on conventional outdoor cultures, increase the edible white root portions of Welsh onions, form the greatly white root portions which are clearly different from the highly green portions of the leaves, and give the soft and white Welch onions having an excellent quality, and to provide a method for culturing the Welsh onions. SOLUTION: This method for culturing Welch onions comprises disposing air layer-having shading plates on both the sides of the softness and whiteness- requiring stem portions of the Welch onions planted in a line, thrusting press bars at a prescribed distance so as to nip both the shading plates, and then inward pressing the upper ends of both the shading plates with the upper ends of the press rods, thereby allowing the upper ends of both the shading plates to approach each other. Thus, the falling of the Welch onions in the domino-like state and on both the right and left sides can be prevented to give the soft and white Welch onions having the increased white root portions.
