PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for replacing a column of a protective structure of excellent workability without restriction of the work space. SOLUTION: The connection between the lower section of a column 4 to be replaced and a foundation 16 is cut off, and a temporary beam 21 is suspended between main girders 1, 1 on both sides of the column 4. The main girder 1 of the column 4 is hoisted by a lift device 24 provided on the temporary beam 21, and the column 4 is removed from between the main girder 1 and the foundation 16 and is replaced with a new column 4. The hoisting work can be conducted on a roof 3, no limitation is put on the work space, no large support is required, and the execution property is excellent. Both sides of the temporary beam 21 may be supported on the main girders 1, 1 on both sides near the corresponding positions of the columns 4 on both sides of the column 4 to be replaced.
