PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an organic thin membrane, not requiring a heating pre- treatment process under a high temperature for a long period of time, etc., excellent in productivity, and also in heat resistance and chemical stability, and a liquid crystal-orienting membrane having a good liquid crystal-orienting capability by a small amount of light irradiation. SOLUTION: This organic thin membrane excellent in heat resistance and chemical stability is obtained by irradiating a light to a maleimide compound, etc., having an aromatic ring and plural maleimide groups for reacting. In the case that the irradiating light is an anisotropic light, a liquid crystal- orienting membrane having an anisotropy is obtained. Since the maleimide compound reacts by the light, the heating process at the high temperature for the long period of time such as a conventional baking process from a polyamic acid is not necessary. Also, different from a solid phase reaction using a polymer, it is possible to obtain the stable organic thin membrane or liquid crystal- orienting membrane by the small amount of light irradiation. |
