PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide titanyl phthalocyanine crystals suitable for electrophotographic photoreceptors. SOLUTION: Titanyl phthalocyanine crystals are produced by reacting titanyl phthalocyanine with a diol derivative and thermally treating the resulting diol- added titanyl phthalocyanine in a solvent mixture comprising water and an organic solvent. Thus, titanyl phthalocyanine crystals having a peak at 27.2±0.2 deg. in an X-ray diffraction diagram with Cu-Kαray can be produced without using sulfuric acid or the like.
