PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excavating work state display system of an excavating machine and a recording medium accurately displaying the positional relationship between a bucket and a target excavating surface and not protruding the target excavating surface and the whole bucket from an image screen. SOLUTION: A distance operation part 110 of a setting/display processing part 11 arithmetically operates a distance between a bucket and a target excavating surface on the basis of a signal from angle detectors 8a, 8b, 8c for detecting a state quantity on a position and an attitude of a work machine. A synthetic processing part 111 arithmetically operates a vertical distance between the bucket and the target excavating surface from the positional relationship between the attitude determined by the distance operation part 110 and the target excavating surface set by a setting unit 7 to vary a contraction scale of the positional relationship between the bucket and the target excavating surface according to the determined vertical distance between the bucket and the target excavating surface to display the positional relationship between the bucket and the target excavating surface on a monitor 12.
