PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for producing methanol by which carbon dioxide generated in a methanol production plant can be recovered and utilized to carry out a reduction, etc., in a raw material required for the production of the methanol. SOLUTION: This apparatus for producing the methanol is obtained by installing a CO2 recovering means 6 for recovering CO2 generated in a combustion furnace 2 of a reforming means 3 and feeding the recovered CO2 to a synthesizing means 4 and a purge gas branching means 7 for recycling and feeding a part of the purge gas from the synthesizing means 4 to the synthesizing means 4 in the apparatus for producing the methanol comprising the reforming means 3 for generating a synthesis gas consisting essentially of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide from a hydrocarbon with a steam reforming furnace 1, the synthesizing means 4 for carrying out an exothermic reaction of the synthesis gas on a methanol synthesizing catalyst and recovering crude methanol produced from the reactional gas in the liquid state and a purifying means 5 for distilling the recovered crude methanol and separating the crude methanol into wastewater containing low-boiling organic compounds and high-boiling organic compounds and the purified methanol.
