Thermoplastics printing base is produced by applying pigments to the surface of a thermoplastics film, the pigment particles being charged electrostatically, sprayed uniformly onto an oppositely charged film and pressed into the film at a temp. above the softening point of the thermoplastics. Plastics films have better mechanical and wet strength than paper, good dielectric properties and dimensional stability. This treatment gives a smooth, absorptive surface with excellent writing and printing qualities. The process is suitable for continuous operation. All the usual thermoplastics film are suitable, including ethylene and propylene (co)polymers, styrene (co)polymers, in cluding high-impact, elastomer-modified types, PVC, PVDC and their mixts.
