Color Index Number Direct Red 227 (1% by weight), diethylene glycol (28% by weight), triethylene glycol monomethyl ether (6% by weight) and purified water (65% by weight) were mixed and stirred sufficiently, and then the mixture was filtered using a 0.8 mum membrane filter to prepare a water-based ink. Tests for evaluating the ink ejection stability were conducted at 5° C., 25° C. and 40° C. using the prepared ink in an on-demand type multiple-head printer where printing is performed by ejecting ink droplets from a printhead, and the ink channel geometry and drive conditions were adjusted such that the ink viscosity at 25° C. would be the optimum ink viscosity. In each of the evaluation tests, favorable results were obtained.
