The validation device is in the form of an electromechanical switch comprising a source (1-1) of radiation with a given wavelength and a cooperating part formed by a deformation pattern (1-2) in the surface (1-3) of the coin etc., achieved by e.g. engraving, punching or casting. The interaction between the radiation source (e.g. light) and deformation pattern generates a code used to identify and validate the coin etc.
