PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical material and an optical member capable of including a rare earth metal ion in high concentration and available of sufficient optical properties in a thinner layer as compared with a prior art, excellent in stability of a monomer mixture even including a high concentration of the rare earth metal ion and having a sufficient moisture resistance. SOLUTION: This optical material comprises a phosphate ester expressed by formulas (5) and/or (6), an acrylic acid based compound and a rare earth metal ion. The optical member comprises the optical material.
