PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transporting mechanism including a direction changing mechanism for changing the transporting direction of paper sheets, in which the risk of sheet breakage is reduced. SOLUTION: At least one of the direction changing mechanisms has an endless belt at the outer circumference in such a way as independent of endless belts of transporting mechanisms located in front of and behind the direction changing mechanism, and the endless belt at the outer circumference has a lower frictional coefficient with sheets of paper, etc., than those endless belts of the transporting mechanisms in front and behind.
