PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic cylinder which needs not extra space for installation on both sides of a conveyor when it is used for a positioning device for articles to be conveyed. SOLUTION: This hydraulic cylinder is provided with a cylinder tube 2 and two pistons 3 and 4, which are arranged in the cylinder tube 2 and whose piston rods 3a and 4a are protruded from both ends of the cylinder tube 2. Air chambers 7, 8, 9 and 10 having ports 11 and 12 on both sides of each of the piston 3 and 4 are formed. The air chamber 7 on the center side of the cylinder tube 2 of the piston 3 and the air chamber 10 on the center side of the cylinder tube 2 of the piston 4 are communicated with each other. The outer diameter of the piston 3 is made larger than the that of the piston 4.
