PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an azo-containing composition improved in coloring properties, dispersibility, and productivity and being excellent in safety. SOLUTION: This composition is an azo containing composition in which the azo dye microparticles and the N-acyllysine microparticles are present in the state in which the azo dye microparticles coat the n-acyllysine microparticles, and/or the state in which both types of the microparticles are present in a mixed state. It is desirable that the azo pigment comprises sodium 4-[o-sulfo-p-tolylazo]-3-hydroxy-2-naphthoate and/or calcium 4-[o-sulfo-p- tolylazo]-3-hydroxy-2-naphthoate. The composition is produced, for example, by reacting a diazonium salt of an aromatic amine with a naphthol or a hydroxynaphthoic acid in the presence of N-acyllysine microparticles.
