PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the image quality from degrading by securing the transporting performance of a sheet feed roller provided in a printer part, for example when performing the recording operation. SOLUTION: A transport system including a feed roller 112e rotated through an ASF clutch 429 capable of forwarding the feed rotation selectively for feeding sheets one by one has a control system consisting of a clutch locking mechanism capable of hindering the rotational output to a feed roller 112e by locking the ASF clutch 429 and also disengaging the locked condition, an ASF sensor 450 to sense whether the ASF clutch 429 is locked by the clutch locking mechanism, and a controller 701 to perform the operational control of the device in conformity to the sensing information of the sensor 450, and in case the clutch 429 is not locked by the locking mechanism after the sheet feeding motion is finished, a forced sheet exhausting control is conducted to exhaust sheets automatically and also the feed roller 112e is restituted to the initial state in which the sheet is not contacted.
