PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long life rigid mold having reduced defects such as the omission of an engraving pattern, excess patterns or the like and accurately manufactured in the shape and the dimension of a line width, the engraving depth or the like of the pattern in the mold used for injection molding a plastic lens, a diffraction grating or the like and a method for manufacturing it. SOLUTION: The mold comprises a pedestal 1 and a pattern layer of a pattern 3. In this case, the pattern layer is made of a metal film mainly containing Ta. The metal film is formed of a Ta metal film 2 containing an oxygen, a nitrogen or the like and formed of the film 2 of a polycrystal structure containing the Ta of a tetragonal structure.
