The bales of animal fodder are placed in a container (4) which is supported on a chassis (2). At one end of the container is a vertical screw blade (5). The blade shreds particles off the bales. The particles are then dropped onto the ground for the animals to eat. The screw is rotated by a separate engine (9) via a reduction gearbox (8) and horizontal driveshaft (7).
