PURPOSE: A high speed reduction control device of a VCR is provided to generate control signals having different gain values by corresponding to a loosen tape or load changes during a speed reduction operation for a fast forward mode or a rewinding mode of the tape, so as to prevent the tape from being loosen and stopping while performing the speed reduction operation as well as exactly stopping the tape. CONSTITUTION: A voltage detector(201) detects a change of a current applied to deck load by a voltage change. A level amplifier(202) amplifies the detected voltage to output the amplified voltage. When a reel pulse is inputted on both ends of a tape, a micro computer(200) stores the amplified voltage level in a memory(200a), and compares a standard load amount set in the memory(200a) with the detected voltage level through a CPU(200b), then decides deck load of each section. The micro computer(200) outputs the first to the fifth control signals having different gain values every section according to the decided deck load. A servo unit(203) controls a driving of a reel motor(205) through a motor driver(204) by the first to the fifth control signals, and reduces a speed of the tape.
