PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an induction heating and hardening method of a cylindrical member with a shaft for hardening inner peripheral surface of the cylinder and outer peripheral surface of the shaft, by which the setting areas is reduced and the treating time is shortened. SOLUTION: In the induction heating and hardening of the cylindrical member W with the shaft for hardening the inner peripheral surface 1a of the cylinder part 1 and the outer peripheral surface 2a of the shaft part 2, this apparatus is provided with an inner peripheral heating coil 3 for heating the inner peripheral surface 1a and a shaft heating coil 8 for heating the outer peripheral surface 2a, a shifting table 34 for shifting the hardening surfaces 1a and 2a to the positions of the respective heating coils 3 and 8 by holding the cylindrical member W and inner peripheral cooling means 6 and 37 and shaft cooling means 42 and 43 integrally shifted by the shifting table 34, and the hardening surfaces 1a and 2a in the cylindrical member W on the shifting table 34, are cooled while shifting this member.
