PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus requiring no complicated connection work capable of confirming an image to be printed on this side of an operator and capable of shortening a printing time. SOLUTION: A printing apparatus 10 consists of a remote control unit 12 and a printer body 14 and both of them are enabled in bidirectional communication by infrared communication (IrDA) or the like. The remote control unit 12 has a liquid crystal monitor 16 and a memory card slot 18 and, by inserting a memory card 20 in the memory card slot 18, image data is read from the memory card 20 to be displayed on the liquid crystal monitor 16. The indication signal corresponding to the operation of an operation button 22 and image data to be printed are transmitted to the printer body 14 to perform printing processing. The remote control unit 12 is equipped with a contact detection sensor and issues a signal indicating the start of printing preparing operation to the printer body 14 immediately after the detection of the contact of an operator.
