PURPOSE: An accidential fire determining method for an internal combustion engine is provided to diagnose a combustion state of the internal combustion engine by judging an accidental fire with reference to the pressure of cylinders and operate the internal combustion engine optimally by changing the combustion mode according to the diagnosis. CONSTITUTION: An accidential fire determining method for an internal combustion engine includes the steps of measuring maximum pressures in cylinders by using pressure sensors in case of an initial engine starting, setting a crank angle corresponding to the maximum pressure, and judging an accidental fire if a crank angle is generated in the operation of the internal combustion engine equally to the crank angle of the maximum pressure, wherein the inner pressures of the cylinders are measured when each piston is positioned on an upper dead point before the fuel is sprayed into the cylinders, and the combustion engine carries out the combustion by directly spraying fuel to the respective cylinders.
