PURPOSE: A device for controlling the tension of a yarn comprising a multistage ball retainer that is monolithically integrated on a yarn guider to a tension providing ball to install in a cylindrical case equipped with a circular tension providing structure at the upper part and a plurality of foreign material discharging structures is provided, thereby productivity by preventing yarn breakage, reducing fraction defective due to the breaking of a yarn in the manufacture, and offering convenience for maintenance is promoted. CONSTITUTION: The device for controlling the tension of a yarn constitutes: a cylindrical case(1) equipped with a yarn guide jaw(2) having a circular cross section at the upper part; a plurality of yarn guide means(3) fixed to a ball retainer(4), installed in the case at regular intervals and equipped with a yarn passing hole(5) in the center of an upper surface part(3'); a tension providing ball(6) installed at the upper part of the yarn guide means; a waste cotton discharging hole(7) longitudinally formed at the circumference of the case; and a plurality of waste cotton discharging holes(8) perforated at the circumference of the ball retainer to discharge waste cotton generated during abrasion of a yarn(Y) by communicating the inside of the ball retainer with the outside through the waste cotton discharging hole.
