PURPOSE: A load/empty brake system for a freight train is provided to simplify the structure for convenient repair and maintenance, improve the precision for preventing malfunction due to the leakage, and increase the braking force according to the load for improving the braking performance and the stability. CONSTITUTION: A load/empty brake system for a freight train includes a KA-4 relay valve(20) for introducing pressure air into a brake cylinder via respective air pipes, a control part(10') for controlling the braking operation by introducing the pressure air into a pressure air cylinder and a control supply part chamber, a KA-3 control valve(10) having an emergency part(10") for supplying pressure air of a sudden braking air cylinder to a diaphragm piston intermediate chamber of the KA-4 control valve rapidly, an exhaust valve(30) for carrying out the releasing operation in case of manual brake release, load/empty sensing valves(40,40') to operate according to a load, and the brake cylinder(60) for carrying out the brake operation by the supplied pressure air via the KA-4 control valve.
