APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING TRANSMISSION ANTENNA DIVERSITY IN MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling a transmission antenna diversity in a mobile communication system is provided to apply variable weights to each of antennas used in the transmission antenna diversity, according to channel states, and to perform an adaptive weight calculation for calculating a present weight by using a previous weight. CONSTITUTION: Channel estimation blocks(1004,1006) input a channel-despreaded primary common pilot channel and a secondary common pilot channel, and estimate channel states of down channels. A weight calculator(1021) has a symbol table having a differential weight relating to a predetermined index, and has a previous normalization weight vector. The weight calculator(1021) finds an index of a differential weight vector in which the size of a receiving signal becomes maximum, by using channel state information estimated within a regular period, the normalization weight vector, and the differential weight vector of the symbol table. The weight calculator(1021) transmits the found index to a base station, and calculates a normalization weight vector by the differential weight vector and a predetermined value, then updates the previous normalization weight vector. The weight calculator(1021) calculates a fixed weight vector at regular intervals, and initializes the normalization weight vector.
