OPTICAL ADD-DROP MULTIPLEXER FOR WAVE DIVISION MULTIPLE OPTICAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM

PURPOSE: An optical add-drop multiplexer for a Wave Division Multiple optical telecommunications system is provided to vary optical add-drop channels at random, improve the flexibility. CONSTITUTION: In an optical add-drop multiplexer, a first optical coupler(220) divides wave division multiple(WDM) optical signals and sends the divided signals to a first output port(222) and a second output port(223). A fiber bragg grating(241) reflects partial waves of the divided optical signals from the first output port(222) of the first optical coupler(220) and sends the waves to a third output port(224) of the first optical coupler(220). An optical wave combiner produces other optical channels and combines the newly produced channels. A second optical coupler(230) couples the optical signal from the fiber bragg grating(241) and the combined optical channels from the optical wave combiner. A first optical wave selector/divider selects parts of the optical signal from the second output port(223) of the first optical coupler(220) and produces the selected waves as the output. A second optical wave selector/divider selects parts of the optical signal from the third output port(224) of the first optical coupler(220) and produces the selected waves as the output.
