COMPOSITION CONTAINING L-2-OXOTHIAZOLIDINE- 4-CARBOXYLIC ACID USEFUL FOR TREATMENT OF DIABETES

PURPOSE: The composition containing L-2-oxothiazolidine- 4-carboxylic acid is provided which is useful for the treatment of diabetes. CONSTITUTION: The composition containing L-2-oxothiazolidine- 4-carboxylic acid as an active ingredient is provided which improves the secretion of insulin from pancreas beta-cells separated from mouse, decreases the concentration of sugar in blood and activates the secretion of insulin when administered into a mouse suffering from the second type of diabetes(C57BL/KsJ-db/db Jcl), wherein the second type of diabetes is non-insulin dependent diabetes millitus(NIDDM). When the second type of composition for the treatment of NIDDM is orally administered into a patient, it contains L-2-oxothiazolidine- 4-carboxylic acid in an amount of 3 to 300 mg/kg.
