METHOD FOR BRAKING WASHING MACHINE ON POWER FAILURE

PURPOSE: A method for braking a washing machine on a power failure is provided to prevent the damages of parts of a washing machine by detecting a DC voltage returned from a motor and the rotational speed of the motor. CONSTITUTION: A power failure of a normal power source is detected by a signal applied from a power failure detecting section. If the power failure is generated, an initial phase and a duty rate are set to brake a motor and a control signal is outputted to a motor driving section. After the DC voltage of the motor is detected from a voltage detecting section and a rotational speed is detected from a speed detecting section, the DC voltage is compared with a reference voltage. If the detected DC voltage is over the reference voltage, the phase of the control pulse and the duty rate corresponding to the detected speed is set and a control signal is outputted to a motor driving section until the DC voltage is under the reference voltage. If the DC voltage is under the reference voltage, the control signal is outputted to the motor driving section until the motor is stopped.
