PURPOSE: A preparation method of dichlorosuccinic acid is provided for lowing pH values by using maleic anhydride to break double bond in molecules thereof and substitute two hydrogen ions with two chlorine ions. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing dichlorosuccinic acid is performed by treating maleic anhydride with HCl gas and/or Cl2 gases. For example, the dichlorosuccinic acid is obtained by placing 150g of maleic anhydride in 500ml water in a 4-neck flask equipped with submersible gas inlet tube and introducing HCl gas in an amount of 4cc/min while agitating with a magnet and maintaining it at 25 deg.C or less for 24 hours. Alternatively, the dichlorosuccinic acid is prepared by placing 200g of maleic anhydride in 500ml water in the same device and introducing 5cc/min of Cl2 gas up to 95 deg.C, adding further 3cc/min of Cl2 gas and maintaining at 105 deg.C for 2 hours, then, rapidly cooling it to 50 deg.C to obtain the final product.
