PURPOSE: An overcurrent protecting circuit and a method are provided to prevent the fire or the combustion due to an overcurrent without increasing an amount and size of the elements by using the micom to cut off the power when detecting the abnormal state of the circuits. CONSTITUTION: Data for checking the abnormal state is transferred to a load. Whether a response signal with respect to the transferred data is received is checked. If the normal response signal is not received, the load is determined to be abnormal. If the load is determined to be abnormal, the power source supplied to the load is interrupted. The overcurrent preventing circuit comprises a controlling means for checking the operation of the load, the first switching means turned on and off by a controlling signal outputted in the controlling means, and the second switching means turned on and off by the on and off of the first switching means and supplying and interrupting a power source.
