PURPOSE: Provided is a method for cultivating plaunoi (Croton sublyratus Kurz) with lower cost and in a short time from which plaunotol is produced in a high yield and found more in broth rather than cells. CONSTITUTION: A method for cultivating plaunoi (Croton sublyratus Kurz) comprises the next steps of: i) germinating leaf, branch, root, or seed of plaunoi to obtain a germ, which is cultivated on 0.5% agar plate to get callus at 30-38 deg.C, preferably 32-36 deg.C or most preferably 34 deg.C, under dark condition; ii) subculturing the callus every four weeks on 0.5% agar plate to obtain more callus cells; and iii) cultivating the cells in UK broth containing 5% fructose as a carbon source at 30-38 deg.C, preferably 32-36 deg.C or most preferably 34 deg.C, under bright condition of over 2000 lux for 24 hours.
