PURPOSE: An apparatus for diagnosing oscillation characteristics of a mould in a continuous caster is provided which prevents fluctuation of the surface of molten steel in the mould, sticker type breakout and corner crack of a slab by measuring vibration of the mould and comparing the measured vibration with a set reference value. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for diagnosing oscillation characteristics of a mould in a continuous caster comprises a non-contact type displacement sensor(6) which is installed adjacently to a mould vibrator(2) impressing vibration to the mould, and which senses vibration of the mould vibrator using the principle of eddy current loss of high frequency waves; a converter(7) which is connected to the non-contact type displacement sensor(6), and in which a measured distance and a voltage change are proportionally displayed through the internal circuit by measuring an oscillation voltage changed according to a distance between the mould vibrator(2) and the non-contact type displacement sensor(6); and a computer(10) in which an analogue/digital converter(8) linearly converting non-linear vibration characteristics of the mould vibrator(2) transmitted through the converter(7) into digital signals is installed, and which diagnoses whether the mould vibrator(2) is in the optimum vibration state using the following diagnosis standard expressions written by a built-in diagnosing software: £Diagnosis Standard Expressions| a standard amplitude-1 mm< an amplitude of vertical stroke <= a standard amplitude+1 mm back and forth, and side to side vibration amounts <= 0.3 mm a phase difference of the vertical stroke <= 2.0 degrees of an angle where it is judge to be abnormal if diagnosis results of the mould exceed a standard of any expression out of the above described standard expressions.
