PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet transporting device and an image processing device furnished with it capable of sensing the sheet existence by preventing a lever of sensor from biting into the sheet without bringing about a large-size construction of the device. SOLUTION: The sheet transporting device includes a sheet transporting means and a paper sensor 629 having a rotatable lever and capable of sensing sheet existence while the lever is rotated by the sheet transported, and the sheet transporting surface is furnished with a recess 622c capable of accommodating the lever tip, wherein the areas near the two sides of the recess 622c are formed narrower than the sheet transporting path.
