PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for supplying a flat article 2 having an irregular and/or variable thickness profile from a substantially horizontal piled up articles 3/5 for individuation. SOLUTION: In order to make individuation possible at a speed of several thousand pieces per hour, flat articles 2 are supplemented to superposition 3 in the former stage, are conveyed while each guided laterally, are converted to a superposition 5 for individuation and are individuated only from here. The articles 2 are guided and conveyed at the superposition 5 for individuation and are kept to a stable state as a superposing by a force transmitted through the articles. Since the superposition 3, in the former stage takes over a buffer function, it includes the articles the piece number substantially freely selectable which are varied over a wide range. The number of the article 2 in the superposition 5 for individuation is relatively less and is almost kept to a constant number within a small range.
