Insulated power or control cables have the technical properties, appearance and/or wear resistance of their insulation enhanced by coating it with particles of mineral materials, e.g. glass fibre, rock wool, etc., or of textile or other materials. Typically, the appearance or feel of imitation leather, woven fabric, etc., are simulated, with various color effects, and deposition is achieved by such methods as flocking, adhesion, over-molding, spraying, shrinking, etc. After initial coating in adhesive, the particles may be sprayed on, or the cable may be passed through a bath containing the particles, and this is followed by polymerisation to suit the adhesive's characteristics. Treatment may also be carried out immediately after the extrusion of the basic insulation, or the associated cooling phase. Opt., the material is deposited in liquid form in a paint or varnish bath, or as a spray.
