Apparatus comprises an electrolysis bath with a top cover against heat loss. The cover is a lid which consists of three sections, is thermally insulated by a ceramic fiber material, and is sealed against gas emission. The middle section (1) is removable vertically upwards, while the two end sections (7, 8) are mounted pivotably on hinges on the longitudinal sides of the middle section. The end sections are sealed along the edges of the electrolysis bath and the middle section.
